What is your favourite Zoggs product?
My favourite Zoggs product would have to be the Predator Flex goggles! They are super comfortable and an ideal goggle for training and racing triathlon.
Most memorable swim?
The Ironman World Championship swim in Kona! The water was so clear the whole way and for an Ironman swim it was so enjoyable to be able to see the reef the whole way.
Favourite event?
It’s a bit of a tie between the Ironman World Championship in Kona and the Noosa triathlon!
Kona because of the history and the legacy of the island and hen Noosa because of its amazing atmosphere.
What are your training must haves?
I must always have enough time to eat and have a coffee! Not because I’ll get run down but because I love my food and coffee.
How did you start your athletic journey?
Originally I was never athletic. I was roughly 130kg in my teenage years and really enthusiastic about my golf. After joining a gym and losing 13kgs in 9 weeks I was determined to lose more! I got down to 85kgs after 7 months of healthy eating and exercise. My personal trainer at the time DNF’d the Port Macquarie 70.3 that year and told me that triathlon and ironman racing is the hardest thing out there and I would never be able to do it… That’s when I decided to enter my first triathlon! I’ve been hooked ever since.
How do you prepare for an event?
It goes without saying that preparing for an event takes a lot of training leading up! But I tend to make sure that within the last 4 weeks is when I really nail everything in my prep. This includes reining my diet in and hit every single swim session because these two things help me stress less and enjoy the last 4 weeks of training.
What advice would you give to someone looking to compete in a triathlon?
Always enjoy it! Triathlon by nature is such a serious sport because it take so much discipline, time and energy therefore making it easy to forget why we do it in the first place! I always tell people to enjoy it and never forget the people that support you! Not just on race day but during your gruelling training blocks.
